Easy for God

06.22.19

“This is an easy thing in the eyes of the Lord; he will also deliver Moab into your hands.” ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

To Joram, king of Israel, all seemed lost. It didn’t appear there was any way out of the deadly mess he had gotten them into, so in frustration, he resorted to pointing the finger at God.

Elisha the prophet says something to Joram that’s good to remember: “This is easy for the LORD.”

What seems extremely difficult, or even impossible, is not difficult for God. Elisha tells Joram that God will not only solve the problem (he's stuck in the desert with no water for his troops or horses) but will also grant him victory over rebellious Moab. With God, it seems, there’s always a bonus.

The king of Israel was in a state of mind that told him he’d be extremely blessed if he were to somehow merely survive this situation. But God had a much bigger, better plan.

How important to remember this when we attempt big things for God and then feel frustrated when things go sideways! I think of what our church is attempting in Mozambique, or Midtown, or with our building project at 59th Ave. and Baseline. There are so many ways these efforts could go sideways, but what is difficult—or even impossible—for us is easy for God.

And let’s keep watch for the bonus!

God has a great plan for us. We only have to look at the cross and the empty tomb to be convinced of that!
