Do people recognize who Jesus Christ really is? Some say he was a wise man, sharing wisdom that we can still "tap into" today. Some say he was a powerful man, capable of miraculous deeds and influencing not only his own generation, but millions of people over the course of 20 centuries. Some say he was a kind man, who cared enough to feed people when they were hungry, heal people when they were sick and talk to people when they were hurting and lonely.

But the Bible calls Jesus much more than any of these. Amazingly, the book of Colossians identifies Jesus Christ as the very “image of God,” the Creator, the sustainer of all things, the head of the church, the first-born among many who will rise from the grave, the reconciler, and the fullness of God in bodily form. Jesus is everything that any of us needs. He is completely adequate to the task of being our Lord and our Savior. His “fullness” is the antidote to the emptiness of human philosophies and worldly principles. He offers so much more to us than human wisdom ever can. He is the image of God, the eternal champion who has freed us, the object of our devotion, and the pathway to peace.
